Spring 2023 - Class Registration
TALMUD: BEN SORER U'MORER With Dr. Shana Strauch Schick In this course we will examine select passages from the eighth chapter of Tractate Sanhedrin, "Ben Sorer U'Moreh," which details the crime and punishment of biblical case of the "rebellious child." We will focus on building skills in reading, understanding and analyzing the talmud and medieval talmudic commentaries, and probe the larger questions that arise from this case; including whether minors can be held accountable for their actions and what happens when biblical law runs counter to contemporary standards of morality. Class meets Feb 13, 15, 20, 22, 27; March 1, 8, 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, and 29. NO CLASS MARCH 6 for Purim. Mondays: 10:30AM Eastern to Noon Eastern Wednesdays: 3PM Eastern to 4:30PM Eastern This class has a hybrid option: all students are registered for the full course and have access to shiur recordings and other materials to review between sessions. If you can only join us live on Zoom for one session per week, we still encourage you to join and will do our best to match you with a study partner who you can connect with both in and outside of class, if you so desire. Tuition is $400.
